Caring for Ceramic Coating After a Detail

Initial Cure Period:

• Wait at least 10 days (or as instructed by the detailer) before washing your car, or putting your boat in the water. The ceramic coating needs this time to cure properly.
• Avoid heavy rain or getting the car or boat wet during this period.
• Washing:
  • Always use a pH-neutral shampoo. Acidic or alkaline cleaning agents can deteriorate the ceramic coating.
  • Prefer a two-bucket method: one bucket for clean soapy water and the other for rinsing your wash mitt.
  • Always use a soft, high-quality wash mitt.
  • Wash the car from top to bottom to avoid dragging contaminants upwards.
  • If you use hull cleaner, DO NOT get it on the coated areas, harsh chemicals can affect the coatings effectiveness.
• Drying:
  • Use a high-quality, soft microfiber towel to dry your vehicle or boat after washing/rinsing. This will help prevent swirl marks and scratches.
  • Consider using an air blower to remove water from hard-to-reach areas.
• Avoid Automatic Car Washes:
  • Most automatic car washes, especially the ones with brushes, can introduce swirls and scratches. They might also use harsh chemicals that could degrade the coating.
  • Instead use self serve, and just high pressure soap or rinse, and drive dry.
• Spot Cleaning:
  • For bird droppings, tree sap, or other contaminants, remove them as soon as possible. Letting them sit can compromise the coating's effectiveness. Use a gentle, pH-neutral quick detailer and a soft microfiber cloth.
• Avoid Waxes and Sealants:
  • Traditional waxes and sealants are not necessary and can diminish the self-cleaning properties of ceramic coatings.
• Bi-annual Inspections:
  • Have your detailer inspect the coating twice annually. They can advise if any touch-ups or re-application is needed.
• Mind the Environment:
  • If you're in an area with heavy industrial pollution, frequent rain, or where roads are salted in the winter, wash your vehicle more often. These conditions can be harsher on the ceramic coating.

Be Gentle:

• Avoid using abrasive materials or brushes on the coated surface. If you notice a stain or mark, it's always safer to take your vehicle to a professional detailer rather than trying aggressive cleaning methods.

Protect from Extreme Conditions:

• If possible, park your car indoors or under a shade. While ceramic coatings provide UV protection, minimizing exposure prolongs the coating's lifespan.
